Prebiotic food list

Just like you, your good bacteria need a healthy diet to flourish. Probiotics help you increase healthy ratios of bacteria in your system but taking probiotics alone will not help them thrive.

Good bacteria need to be fed. Having a diet rich in inulin, fermented foods and fibre nourish the bacteria that support your immune function and digestive system. Limiting or avoiding sugars, refined foods and alcohol also help them thrive whilst inhibiting the growth of nasty bacteria. The below list of foods are prebiotics, which essentially means – good food for your good bacteria. Having a few of these items a day will help your overall health. Happy eating 🙂

  • Ground linseeds
  • Chia seeds (soaked in water for five minutes before eating)
  • Aloe Vera
  • Rolled oats
  • Slippery elm
  • Raw garlic
  • Onion, cooked
  • Asparagus
  • Elecampane
  • Dandelion greens
  • Greek yogurt
  • Raw leeks
  • Chicory root
